
National Indoor U20 and U23 Championships
On Sunday last, the National Indoor U20 and U23 Championships took place in Athlone. St
Abbans had representation across the jumps with the Fitzgerald sisters, Lucy and Grace as
well as Katie Baldwin all competing strongly. Lucy finished 6 th in the U20 Long Jump with a
best of 5.05m. She improved her performance in the Triple jump to land the bronze medal
with a best jump of 10.70m. Just behind her in 4 th place was Katie Baldwin with a jump of
10.51m. In the u23 Long Jump Grace Fitzgerald finished in 6 th place with a jump of 5.12m.
Well done to each of the ladies and their coaches who work hard behind the scenes to
ensure athletes can perform on big days like these.
National Indoor Masters Championships
St Abbans had 4 athletes competing at the National Indoor Masters Championships which
were held in Athlone today. Bernie Lawless competed in both the Shot Putt and Weight For
Distance. Bernie was just outside the medals in the Shot when she finished in 4 th place with
a best throw of 6.38m. In the Weight For Distance Bernie finished in 6 th place after a throw
of 3.82m. Paul Greenwood competed in the 60m Sprint where his time of 8.92s saw him
also finish just outside the medals in 4 th place. Patsy Baldwin continued his successful Indoor
campaign when he claimed a bronze medal in the O55 High Jump with a leap of 1.35m. John
Territt also continued to add to his medal haul when he took victory in the Weight For
Distance with a throw of 6.46m. Patsy finished 6 th in this event after a throw of 5.81m. John
finished off his days action with a silver medal after a throw of 10.75m in the O60 Shot Putt.
Well done to all of these athletes on their excellent showings at both Leinster and National
Masters Indoor events so far this year.
St Leo’s Girls flying in Galway
St Abban’s A.C. had 3 athletes in action at the All-Ireland School’s Cross-Country
Championships which were held in Galway over the weekend. All 3 girls were representing
St Leo’s College, Carlow having qualified through Leinster’s three weeks previously. First up
on the day was Zoe Dunne who had a brilliant run in the Minor Girls race finishing in 26 th
which placed her in the Top 10 Leinster athletes across the line.
Laura Aryes was next up in the Junior Girls race. She had a fantastic run to finish in 9th in
the Junior Girls race. This saw Laura gain selection for her first international cap on the Irish
Schools team to compete at the SIAB Cross Country Championships in Falkirk in two weeks’
time. Her sister, Rachel Ayres was the final club athlete in action putting in an amazing
performance to finish a superb 6 th place in the Senior Girls race. Well done to all three girls
on their fantastic achievements, both their school and club are very proud of them.
