
Strong Showing for Club at Leinster Novice & Master’s Road Championships
Athletes from the club delivered an impressive set of performances at the Leinster Novice &
Master’s Road Championships in Gowran on Saturday last. This race has been located here
for a number of years allowing athletes track their progress from year to year.
In the Master’s Men 6000m, Stephen Hunter led the way with an outstanding run of 19:37,
finishing 2nd overall and claiming gold in the M45 category. Paddy Dunne also impressed,
placing 14th overall and securing bronze in M45. Francis Fleming added to the medal haul
with gold in the M70 category, finishing 40th overall in 26:28.
In the Master’s Women 3000m, Deirdre Delaney (18th overall) and Sinead Kelly (15th
overall in 12:58) both competed strongly in the F40 category. Together, they contributed to
a 3rd-place finish for the county team in the F35 category.
Successful Turnout at 29th St Abban’s AC Annual Open Sports
St Abban’s A.C. hosted a highly successful 29th Annual Open Sports, welcoming athletes
from 28 clubs for a day of competitive action and community spirit.
The event, a highlight of the club calendar, saw a fantastic turnout from clubs travelling
from across the region, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere throughout the day.
Top honours went to St Laurence O’Toole AC, who claimed the Monavea Shield for Best
Overall Club with 64 points. Barrow Valley Athletic Club finished second on 43.5 points,
while Enniscorthy Athletic Club secured third place with 39 points.
The club extended sincere thanks to all who contributed to the smooth running of the
event, from those involved in preparations to the many volunteers who gave their time on
the day. Appreciation was also expressed to event sponsors Newhaven Kitchens &
Bedrooms and Cllr Ben Brennan for their continued support.
With another successful Open Sports concluded, organisers are already looking forward to
welcoming athletes back again next year.
