National U20 Title for Lucy
The National U20 & U23 Track and Field Championships were held in Tullamore on
Saturday, on a very busy weekend for the club with the National Leage also taking place at
the same venue on Sunday. Lucy Fitzgerald took top honours in the U20 Women’s Triple
Jump. Her jump of 11.17 saw her claim the gold medal in a very close competition, where
only 40cm separated the top 4 athletes. Katie Baldwin finished just outside the medal in 4th
with a jump of 10.76m. Lucy also competed in the U20 Women’s Long Jump where she had
to settle for 6th after a leap of 5.09m. James Hyland’s PB of 54.20 in the 400m saw him finish
in 6th place in Heat 4 of the U20 Men’s 400m. Rachel Ayers also finished 6th in the U20
Women’s 800m in a time of 2.21s. John Delaney qualified for the U20 800m after placing 4th
in Heat 3 and in the final he finished in 7th place in 1.59. Well done to all of these athletes
who continue their development towards the senior ranks with these National
Championships. They must also be commended for returning to Tullamore the following day
to compete for the National League team.

National League Preliminary Round
Well done to all our club athletes who travelled to Tullamore on Sunday for the Preliminary
Round of the National League. After changes in the last number of years, the Preliminary
round works as a placing round for the National League Final. The top 8 clubs go to the
Premier Division while 9-16 go to Division 1. Both teams have a great mix of Senior National
medallists as well as some athletes testing themselves against seniors for the very first time.
There’s no doubt it will be great experience for all of the athletes. As is stood on Sunday
evening after excellent performances throughout the day, preliminary results place our
Women's team 9th (out of 15 teams), and our Men's team 4th (out 17th teams). Overall, the
Women’s team collected a total of 119 points while the Men’s team gathered 222 points
across the 17 events. Many thanks to Patsy and David for their co-ordination of both League
teams.

Fit4Life Summer League - Stage 5 Wolfhill
