Leinster Schools Cross-Country
Well done to all our club members who were out representing their schools on Wednesday at the Leinster Schools Cross-Country held in the Phoenix Park. There were some excellent performances all round with Zoe Dunne 15th (Minor Girls) and sisters Laura 6th (Junior Girls) and Rachel Ayres 10th (Senior Girls) all qualifying for the All-Ireland Schools Cross-Country which will take place on the 8th March in Galway. In the Junior Girls Chelsey Dooley was also representing St Leo’s College when finishing 26th, with Katie Hartnett just behind her in 40th place, representing Castlecomer. Laura and Chelsey were both members of the St Leo’s team who narrowly missed out on a podium place finishing in 4th. Aine Carter also had a fine run in the Senior Girls when she finished in 30th in the colours of Heywood Community School.
In the Inter Boys race Will Duffy led the club contingent home in 22nd place for Knockbeg College. Kalem Buggy wasn’t far behind for Castlecomer in 32nd place. Cian O Sullivan was next for Knockbeg in 49th, Eoin Mulkerrins in 65th and Cormac Fenlon rounded out the Knockbeg team in 94th place. Knockbeg finished in 8th overall when the team scores were added up. Well done to each of the athletes, their teachers and schools who encourage athletics on a daily basis. We wish all those athletes who have qualified for the All Irelands in Galway all the best.
