Leinster Senior + Juvenile Indoors Day 3+4 Athlone
The Leinster Indoor Championships for 2024 came to an end in Athlone over the weekend with the juvenile relays as well as Junior, Senior and Master’s Championships all taking place. It was also great to see a number of juvenile relay teams out representing the club.
On Saturday, the Baldwin family were to the fore throughout the day with Katie claiming a silver medal in the U20 High Jump. Her Dad, Patsy claimed two bronze medals in the Shot Putt and Weight for Distance, throwing 7.64m in the Shot Putt and 5.52 in the Weight for Distance. Aoibhin McDonald also claimed a bronze medal in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 2.70m. The final medallist from the club on Saturday was Matthew Rossiter who cleared 3.40m in the Senior Men’s Pole Vault to claim victory.
On Sunday the club fielded 8 Relay teams with 3 making it to the finals. There were also some individual events taking place with St Abban’s A.C once again to the fore. In the Girls U14 Triple Jump Aoibhean Carter claimed a silver medal. In the U17 Triple Jump Elaine Miller also won a silver medal. Katie Baldwin went one better in the U19 Triple Jump when she took victory on a weekend where she competed successfully across several events. In the Shot Putt, Hollie Byrne’s throw of 7.69m was good enough for 2nd place U19. James Kehoe also claimed a silver medal with a best throw if 12.97m.
Well done to each of the athletes, their parents and coaches who ensure the club performs so well on a provincial stage. We look forward to tracking their progress to the All- Ireland Indoors and throughout the summer months.
