Great Success at Leinster Schools T&F Championships
The Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships took place on last week with a host of St Abban’s athletes swapping their club vests to represent their various schools in Tullamore. There were a number of strong performances across both days with a host of athletes qualifying through to the All-Ireland Schools. St Leo’s College Carlow had strong club links across both days with Zoe Dunne, Sophie Dowling and Faye Brennan forming three of the gold medal winning team in the Minor Girls 4 by 100m Relay who broke the Championship Record. Zoe also claimed a silver medal in the Minor Girls 75m Hurdles and third in the Minor Girls Long Jump. Her teammate in the relay, Faye Brennan finished just ahead of her in the Long Jump winning a silver medal with a leap of 4.78m. Lily O Neill won a silver medal in the Junior girls 100m and claimed a second silver in the Triple Jump with a best of 9.61m. Grainne Doyle was the winner of the U16 Shot Putt with a throw of 8.91m. Joshua Crosby also took victory with a throw of 14.47 in the Boys U16 Shot Putt. Aaliyah Troy won bronze in the Inter Girls High Jump after clearing 1.50m. The final medal of the day came from Fionn O Sullivan who won bronze in the Senior Boys Walk. There were a host of other club athletes in action who just missed out on medals but nonetheless gave everything in the competition. These included Jean Lawlor Minor Girls Shot Putt, Laura Ayers Junior Girls 800m, Elanna Kelly Junior girls High Jump, Kalem Buggy U16 Mile, Will Duffy + Eoin Mulkerrins Intermediate Boys Steeplechase, Rachel Ayers Senior Girls 1500m, James Hyland Senior Boys 400mH, John Delaney Senior Boys 400m and Cormac Dineen Senior Boys Walk. Well done to each of the athletes, teachers and coaches involved in all of these brilliant results. We look forward to hearing more successes at the All-Ireland Schools.
