
Leinster Juvenile Relays
St Abban’s A.C. had a large crowd out competing on Saturday at the Leinster Juvenile Relays held in SETU Carlow. Overall, the club won 7 sets of medals across a wide range of age groups with athletes competing across even and uneven ages. The Girls U9 team won silver medals. The team of Ciara, Marnie, Beatrice and Hannah came 2nd after completing 100m each. The Girls U15 team of Zoe, Faye, Roisin and Lily also finished in 2nd place. In the Boys U17 4 by 400m relay, Kalem, Will, Eoghan Mitchell and Eoin Mulkerrins finished in 3rd place winning bronze medals. The Girls U12 Relay team also won bronze medals. Meabh, Ava, Penelope and Shana finished in 3rd place in the 4 by 100m event. In the U14 event Roisín, Sophie, Eabha and Faye won silver medals. The U18 girls also won silver medals with Cara, Rachel, Aayliah and Elaine combining for the medals. The final medal winners were the Boys U12 who won gold. The team of Liam, Tom, Ruben and Leo ran brilliant races to take victory. Well done to the other athletes who competed across the day. We had a number of team narrowly miss out on medals but gain great experience along the way.
Leinster Combined Events
The Athletics Leinster Combined Events took place on Sunday 25th May with athletes making the short journey to SETU Carlow for the competition. There were 4 medal winners from the club across Girls U11, Girls U12, Boys U12 and Girls U18. Ava Brophy claimed gold in the Girls U11 Quadathlon after coming out on top after the 4 events; 60m Sprint, Distance, Long Jump and Shot Putt had been completed. Meabh Kearney finished in 9th place in the same event. Penelope McMahon was the winner of the U12 Quadathlon. There were 6 boys from the club competing in the Boys U12 Quadathlon. Liam Doyle came out on top taking home the gold medal. Leo Smith was just outside the medals in 4th place. Edward McDonald was 8th, Reuben Kelly 9th, Tom Condron 14th and Brennin Haughney finished in 15th place. In the Girls U15 Pentathlon Roisin Kearney finished just outside the podium in 4th place. In the Boys U13 Jack Ramsbottom was 8th. Our final medalist of the day came in the U18 Pentathlon when Cara English claimed top spot after the 5 events; Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Sprint and Distance.
Fit4Life Summer League - Stage 2 Killeen
Well done to the 190 walkers, joggers and runners who travelled to Killeen for Stage 2 of this year's Fit4Life Summer League. Kristian Redmond was first across the line in 13:22, with Sinead Fitzpatrick first female home (4th place overall) in a time of 14:08. The next stage will take place in Rossmore on Wednesday 4th June starting at 7:30PM.
