Leinster Juvenile Indoors, TUS Arena, Athlone  

The Club’s Juvenile athletes made the trip to the TUS arena, Athlone this weekend for Day 1 and 2 of the Leinster Juvenile Indoors. There were a huge amount of standout performers across the weekend and the amount of athletes taking part from St Abbans really highlighted the fantastic work taking place in the club. Altogether, 65 athletes proudly represented the club across a wide range of events. On Day 1, Will Duffy won gold in the Boys U16 1500m clocking 4:22. Edon Nimani was the clear winner of the Boys U16 Shot Putt with an impressive best of 11.62m. John Delaney picked up the club’s final gold of the day in the Boys U18 400m. Cormac Dineen won a silver medal in the Boys U17 Walk, while Eoghan Mitchell also came away with a silver medal in the High Jump after a clearance of 1.55m a new PB. In the Girls U14 60m Lily O’Neil took bronze and the final medal from day 1 came from Elaine Miller in the Long Jump. The club also had a number of athletes just outside the medals and these athletes will be back over the summer to try and go a few places better.

 

Day 2

Day 2 saw another great showing from athletes wearing the green, white and gold of St Abban’s A.C. Joshua Crosby took gold in the Shot Putt with a throw of 12.16m. Adam Kelly also took home a gold medal in the 60m Hurdles. Lily O Neill also added a gold medal to her bronze from yesterday in the 60m Hurdles. Shane Kelly claimed a silver medal in the Hurdles. Laura Ayers battled all the way home to claim a silver medal and James O Mara won the club’s final silver medal on Sunday in the Long Jump. Roisin Kearney claimed a bronze in the 60m Hurdles while John Delaney added bronze to his gold from yesterday in the 800m.  

Once again the club had a host of athletes just outside the medals in the minor places. Sinéad Fitzpatrick, Josh Delaney, James Hyland, Katie Baldwin, Will Duffy, Adam Kelly, Joseph Lawlor, and Cathal English were unlucky not to medal finishing in 4th place. Well done to all our juveniles who represented the club so brilliantly over the weekend
