IUAA Indoor T&F Championships, Santry
A selection of St Abban’s athletes were in action on Friday and Saturday representing their
colleges in the Irish University Athletics Association Track and Field Championships. Field
events were the order of the day with our athletes competing across Long and Triple Jump,
Pole Vault, Hammer and Weight For Distance. In the Women’s Long jump, the Fitzgerald
sisters Lucy and Grace competed strongly. Lucy representing UCC jumped 5.04m while
Grace in the UCD colours jumped 4.35m. Lucy returned in the Triple Jump where her leap of
11.21m saw her claim a bronze medal for UCC. Katie Baldwin representing DCU finished just
outside the medals in 10.27m which was good enough for 5 th place. In the Women’s Pole
Vault, Aoibheann McDonald won a silver medal with a vault of 2.85m in the UCD colours.
Ger Kelly was in great throwing form in the Hammer. His best throw of 43.90m was a new
PB saw him finish in 5 th place. In the Men’s Weight for Distance the SETU athlete went one
place better with a throw of 7.56m which saw him finish in 4 th place. Well done to all of
these athletes and their coaches who hope for a long successful summer of track and field
action.
