Irish Life Dublin Marathon
The club had strong representation in the Irish Life Dublin Marathon which was held on the streets of Dublin on Sunday last. As always all of these athletes had a variety of reasons for completing the marathon, some hoping to be competitive, others were on their first marathon adventure, while some were testing themselves and raising money for charities throughout their training. While it was a damp morning the calm wind conditions allowed for almost perfect racing conditions through the streets of the capital. Colin Coyne was first athlete home from the club in a very impressive 2:36:59. Colin finished 7th in the M45 category and made a huge 8minute improvement from last year’s event. Stephen Hunter on his maiden voyage over the distance was next in 2:45, finishing 49th in the M40 category. Next home were the Fitzgerald brothers, Damien in 2:56 followed by Thomas just over the 3hour mark in 3:02. William Kelly continued his progress over the marathon distance running 3:13. Aidan Maher was next in 3:31 with Seamus Brennan only a few minutes back in 3:38. Caitriona McDonald was the first lady home from the club in 3:53. She was followed home by Joyce Byrne in 4:13 and Linda Ward in 4:55. Carmel Hughes also completed the 26.2mile distance. The club would like to congratulate everyone on their great efforts over the last number of weeks and months in making it to the finish line. Also well done to all those who raised money for a variety of charities along the way.
